Outline and Rewrite the notes you make

If you spend any amount of time in a classroom, whether it is a night class or a class during the day, you need to take as many notes as possible. Also, you may want to consider getting back to school help in the form of a study group or at least a study partner. This way you will have someone to go over the notes with you. It is also important not to forget about the notes you have taken. Be sure to study the notes, revise them, outline them and then rewrite them until you have effectively learnt them and know them by heart.

Find a space that you will be comfortable in, but make sure that you do not get to complacent within the space, it has to be a space that is taken seriously. In fact, getting out of your house to study is the most effective study habit that you can pick up. Get yourself into a library, quiet coffee shop or nook in a bookshop and dig yourself a trench in which to study.

The above effective study habits are a good starting to your back to school help list. You may also want to consider how you approach the task you have at hand. Numerous studies show that a person is more effective in a chosen task if they keep positive and look ahead. Never think of yourself as not having enough time or not being good enough and avoid comparing yourself with others. Governor to sue NCAA over Penn state sanctions

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) ? Gov. Tom Corbett said Tuesday he plans to sue the NCAA in federal court over sanctions imposed against Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal.

The Republican governor scheduled a news conference for Wednesday on Penn State's campus in State College to announce the filing in U.S. District Court in Harrisburg.

The sanctions, agreed to by the university in July, included a $60 million fine that would be used nationally to finance child abuse prevention grants. State and federal lawmakers have raised objections to the money being spent outside Pennsylvania.

A message seeking comment on the expected lawsuit was left with the NCAA on Tuesday.

Last month, a Pennsylvania congressman said he was unhappy with how the NCAA responded to a request from the state's U.S. House delegation that the whole $60 million in Penn State fines be distributed to causes within the state.

NCAA president Mark Emmert had said in a Dec. 12 letter that a task force had been charged with allocating at least 25 percent of the fine money to programs in Pennsylvania.

Republican Rep. Charlie Dent said days later in a statement that Emmert's response was "unacceptable and unsatisfactory."

The NCAA said then that it stood by what Emmert said.

The fine was just part of college sports' governing body's sanctions on Penn State for its handling of the abuse scandal involving Sandusky, a former assistant under head football coach Joe Paterno. The landmark sanctions also included a four-year ban from postseason play and significant scholarship cuts for the marquee football program, which avoided being suspended, the so-called death penalty.

Sandusky, a former defensive coordinator, was convicted in June on charges he sexually abused 10 boys, some on campus. The 68-year-old was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in state prison.

Eight young men testified against him, describing a range of abuse they said went from grooming and manipulation to fondling, oral sex and anal rape when they were boys.

Sandusky didn't testify at his trial but has maintained his innocence, acknowledging he showered with boys but insisting he never molested them.

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays behind you, January is a good month to take a look at retirement savings. Are you on track to reach your retirement goals? Many people aren?t. In fact, just 14 percent of American workers are very confident they?ll have enough money to live comfortably in retirement.1 And nearly 75 percent of retirees said they hadn?t saved enough and would have saved more if they could do it all over again.2

If you don?t have an individual retirement account (IRA)?or haven?t thought about your existing account recently?it may be time to take another look at this option.

Benefits of IRAs

The primary benefit of an IRA is the choice you have in where your money is invested. Unlike employer-sponsored 401(k) plans, which may limit your investment choices, you can choose to direct your IRA savings to stocks, bonds, real estate, mutual funds and more. An IRA can supplement your retirement savings, making it a nice complement to an existing 401(k) plan.

IRAs also give you flexibility. Some IRAs allow you to withdraw your IRA contributions (not the earnings) without penalty before you retire. In some cases, such as a first home purchase, you may be allowed to withdraw some of your contributions and earnings without penalty.

Choose Which Type Works for You

Traditional IRAs have been around for some time, but the newer Roth IRA has been an option only since 1997. Both have advantages, depending on your savings structure.

With either IRA, your investment is tax-deferred: You generally don?t pay taxes until you withdraw the money at retirement. With a traditional IRA, all or some of your contributions may be tax-deductible when they are made, but you will pay tax on the full amount when you withdraw funds. Contributions to Roth IRAs, on the other hand, are taxed up front, but you can withdraw them at any time?and after age 59?, withdrawals are tax-free.

Since eligibility rules vary, you may wish consult with your tax advisor as you evaluate your options.

Decide How Much to Invest

For the 2012 tax year, if you?re younger than 50 years of age, you may contribute up to $5,000 (or 100% of your earned income, whichever is less) to either a traditional or Roth IRA?for 2013, you may contribute up to $5,500. Keep in mind that if you have both types of accounts, the contribution limit represents the total you may contribute among all IRAs for the year.

Several variables will impact how much you?re able to contribute. For example:

?Those 50 and older may generally contribute $6,000 per year to an IRA.

?Your Roth IRA contribution eligibility is determined by your income level.

?Your Traditional IRA contribution deductibility may be impacted by your income level.

?Rollovers from other accounts are possible, though you may incur a transfer or termination fee from the company that holds your IRA.

Fund by April 15

Whatever your IRA choice or contribution level, you have until the federal income tax return due date?April 15, 2013?to fund your account for the 2012 tax year, but why wait? Make a savings resolution and start today!

The owners of arts and crafts store Hobby Lobby and Christian retailer Mardel begin the New Year fighting an old fight that, until Barack Obama?s election, was settled in America: the fight for the right to freedom of conscience. The Green family-owned businesses are refusing to comply with the Obama government?s order that they provide abortifacient drugs in their health care coverage for employees. Providing such drugs violates the family?s religious beliefs.

The Green family, along with the Beckett Fund for Religious Liberty that is defending them, petitioned to the Supreme Court in 2012 to block that part of the ObamaCare law. The case went to Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who rejected that bid. The Green family announced that they would defy the mandate. Today is the day that that mandate kicks in across the nation.

Hobby Lobby is among scores of businesses, universities and organizations that are fighting the mandate. So far, courts have tended to side with religious institutions against the mandate, but have not granted Christian business owners the freedom to opt out of the mandate. In the Green family?s case, Hobby Lobby is a secular business that retails arts and crafts and hobby supplies, but Mardel sells only Christian books, music and other religious merchandise. A federal court did side with Tyndale House Publishers in November 2012, blocking the Obama Department of Health and Human Services from imposing the abortifacient mandate on the Bible publisher. That decision only applied to Tyndale.

In a few short years, the United States has moved dramatically, from it being controversial for taxpayer funds to be used to pay for abortions of any kind, to a government mandate forcing businesses to provide abortifacient drugs in violation of their religious beliefs.

Hobby Lobby and Mardel now face fines as high as $1.3 million per day as long as they remain in defiance of the mandate.

No fuel sheen, no sign that hull is breached

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) ? Officials say two aircraft that flew over an oil drilling ship that went aground off an island in a severe Alaska storm have not seen any signs that the vessel is leaking fuel or that its hull had been breached.

Federal on-scene response coordinator Capt. Paul Mehler says the rig is aground but appears to be stable on Tuesday.

When the storm eases and weather permits, the plan is to get marine experts onboard the Kulluk to take photos and videos, and then come up with a more complete salvage plan.

The Kulluk is carrying 150,000 gallons of diesel and about 12,000 gallons of lube oil and hydraulic fluid. The rig ran aground Monday on a sand and gravel shore off an uninhabited island in the Gulf of Alaska.

A BOWEL cancer charity is looking for volunteers to help at a charity supermarket collection.

Beating Bowel Cancer has booked the collection at Tesco on Winwick Road on Saturday, January 19.

It needs volunteers to collect money in charity buckets from 10am and 4pm.

The charity said that around 100 people in the town are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year.

All money raised will be used to help raise awareness of bowel cancer and support patients, and their families, coping with the disease.
